Privacy-First Voice Input
🔒 Zero Data Collection: MicBuddy does not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal data, voice recordings, or typed content.
MicBuddy is designed with privacy as the foundation. We believe your voice and data should remain completely private and under your control.
How MicBuddy Works
MicBuddy uses your browser's built-in Web Speech API to convert your voice to text. This process happens entirely within your browser - no external servers, no cloud processing, no data transmission.
- Voice processing occurs locally in your browser
- No voice recordings are saved or stored
- No personal information is collected
- No data is transmitted to external servers
- No tracking or analytics
Permissions We Request
MicBuddy requests minimal permissions to function:
- Microphone Access: Required to capture your voice for speech-to-text conversion
- Active Tab: Allows the extension to work on the current webpage
- All URLs: Enables voice input on any website you visit
- Storage: Saves your preferences (language, settings) locally on your device
Your Control
You maintain complete control over MicBuddy:
- Voice input only activates when you press Alt+V
- You can stop recording at any time by pressing Space
- Microphone access can be revoked in browser settings
- Extension can be disabled or removed at any time
Technical Implementation
MicBuddy is built using:
- Native Web Speech API: Browser's built-in speech recognition
- Local Processing: All operations happen on your device
- No External Dependencies: No third-party services or APIs
- Open Source: Code is transparent and auditable
